Read the service label as part of the price
At an Italian station, self or self-service means you dispense the fuel yourself. Servito means attended service. These labels describe how fuel is sold, and the corresponding prices can differ even for the same fuel at the same station.
Comparing a self-service price at one station with an attended price at another can give you the wrong conclusion about which is cheaper for your intended purchase. First choose the fuel your vehicle needs, then match the service type. Petrol is benzina, diesel is gasolio, and LPG is GPL.
At the station, check the label on the pump or lane you are about to use. Do not assume a large price on the roadside board applies to every pump. If the service arrangement is unclear, establish it before filling rather than relying on the lowest number you saw from the road.
Calculate the difference for your fill
Suppose, purely as an example, a station reports petrol at €1.80/litre self-service and €1.95/litre attended. For a purchase of 30 litres, the difference is 30 × (€1.95 − €1.80) = €4.50. These are hypothetical prices, not current quotes or a typical surcharge.
Your choice can also depend on whether you want assistance and whether the service is operating when you arrive. A reported attended price is not confirmation that an attendant is currently available. The app’s price data does not establish every detail of payment equipment or station operations.
Compare the correct rows in PienoGo
- Search near your location or an address and select the required fuel in Filters.
- If you want attended prices, enable Full service only. The Italian interface calls this Solo servito.
- Open station details and read the self and attended entries actually reported for that fuel. Turning the filter off does not prove every station has a self-service price.
- Check the last update and compare equivalent entries at your shortlisted stations before opening Directions.
You can do this without registering. PienoGo uses reported MIMIT fuel prices; a recent app import and a station’s last price communication are separate dates.
Common questions
Is servito a separate fuel grade?
No. It describes attended service. You still need to check the fuel product and its compatibility with your vehicle.
Does the app have a self-service-only switch?
The current filter is Full service only for attended prices. To assess self-service options, inspect the fuel and service rows in station detail.
Can I rely on an old self-service price if the attended price is recent?
Read the reporting information associated with the price you intend to use. A recent entry for one product or service does not establish that every other row was freshly communicated.
