Understand metano before comparing prices
In Italian refuelling searches, metano refers to methane-based vehicle fuel. For a CNG vehicle, you need compressed natural gas, called GNC in Italian. LNG is liquefied natural gas, called GNL, and is a different dispensing form: a GNL listing is not a substitute for a CNG filling point.
You may also encounter L-GNC, meaning compressed gas obtained from regasified LNG. The distinction concerns what the station dispenses, not simply where the gas originated. Check the exact fuel label and your vehicle’s requirements, especially when a site offers more than one gas product. GPL means LPG and belongs to a separate fuel category.
CNG prices are expressed in euros per kilogram, not euros per litre. Compare the same fuel and unit, confirming the unit with the source or station if a displayed label is unclear. A numerical comparison between €1/kg of CNG and €1/litre of petrol does not establish equal running cost: the quantities and vehicle consumption are different.
Plan for a usable station and a backup
An entry on the map helps you locate a station with a reported price. It does not confirm opening hours, current supply, dispenser operation or how long you will wait. When a stop is important to your range or timetable, check the station’s operating arrangements directly and identify an alternative before travelling.
Do not read a recent price report as an availability signal. The station may have reported a price without providing live operational information. Likewise, a daily PienoGo import does not mean every station reported a fresh price that day.
Search in PienoGo
- Use your location or search an address along the journey you expect to make.
- Select the relevant metano/CNG fuel in Filters. Check the vehicle-based fuel choice if you have selected a vehicle.
- Adjust Search radius and inspect station details, including the exact fuel row, price unit and last update.
- Compare alternatives, then use Directions for your chosen stop.
- Use Plan a trip for a longer itinerary so you can assess stations in relation to the route.
Nearby discovery works for guests. Saving a station as a favourite requires an account. PienoGo’s prices use official MIMIT data, imported daily.
Common questions
Can a CNG car refuel at any station labelled GNL?
Do not assume so. GNL is LNG. Check whether the site also dispenses the compressed fuel required by your vehicle.
Does Updated today guarantee that a dispenser is working?
No. It narrows the displayed price reports; it does not monitor station operations.
Can I use the petrol price difference formula for CNG?
Use the same arithmetic structure with the correct unit: kilograms bought × difference in euros per kilogram. Calculate any extra driving cost using your vehicle’s consumption in compatible units.
