Search the journey you will actually drive
A nearby search answers “where can I fill up around here?” A route search answers a different question: “which stop fits the drive ahead?” A station close to your current position may be in the wrong direction, while another farther ahead may require almost no diversion.
Include planned visits and breaks when building the itinerary. Their order changes the route and the stations worth considering. Choose the correct fuel or vehicle before comparing results: a cheap petrol stop is not useful for a diesel car, and GPL and metano refer to different gas fuels in Italy.
Plan a stop with PienoGo
- Open Plan a trip and enter Start and Destination.
- Use Add stop for places you already intend to visit, then arrange the stops in travel order.
- Choose your vehicle or select the fuel manually, and calculate the trip.
- Inspect the station cards along the route. Compare price, how far ahead the station is, and the extra distance and time.
- Open the station detail to inspect the relevant fuel and service rows and the last price update. Use Directions once you choose a stop.

Read the driving estimates correctly
On a station card, Ahead describes the station’s position along the trip. +distance and +time describe additional driving to leave the route and rejoin it via the station. They are different measurements. Extra time excludes queues and refuelling, so leave room in your schedule for the stop itself.
If the app says detours have not been verified, treat the shortlist as approximate. Proximity to the route alone does not establish a convenient road connection.
Smart Trip checks leading options against current traffic and recommends a stop using fuel price and refreshed detours. It has a monthly allowance per account; the app shows your remaining uses and renewal date. If traffic checks or the allowance are unavailable, the trip can continue with the standard route information. Traffic-aware driving estimates do not make the underlying fuel prices live: those come from MIMIT data imported daily.
Common questions
Can I add a lunch stop before searching for fuel?
Yes. Add it as an itinerary stop and put it in the intended order. Then assess fuel stations along that version of your journey.
Is the recommended stop guaranteed to be cheapest?
No. A recommendation weighs the available price and journey information. Check fuel compatibility, service type, reporting date and practical access before deciding.
Does extra time include filling and paying?
No. It covers additional driving. Add your own allowance for queues, filling, payment and any break you plan to take.
